How is Airius Cooling Australian Buildings?

Let’s find out more

As we have discussed before in previous newsletters, airflow offers a great, low-cost cooling solution. That is why fans and other air movement devices have been used for so long.

Air movement can offer significant cooling capabilities, even in tropical and humid climates. Cooling of between 3–7°C is achievable through the use of fans in hot and humid, or hot and dry, climates, subject to air speed.

Airius is well suited to providing cooling airflow in these types of environments. Projects in Fiji, Darwin, Cairns and countries across Asia, including Vietnam, Thailand and India, demonstrate the value of Airius fans for cooling.

One of the great attributes of Airius fans is their unobtrusive design. Many clients also appreciate their ease of installation and the lack of consequential costs around installation complexity, lighting strobing, structural requirements, maintenance and three-phase power, which can be associated with larger bladed fan units.

In basketball halls, for example, there is another major Airius benefit: no exposed blades and reduced risk of damage from basketballs or similar sports equipment.

In warehouses and factories with overhead cranes, Airius fans can sit above the crane and out of the way.

In facilities with aisles, shelving or racking, where airflow from a typical fan can be restricted, Airius fans can push air down or along the aisles, supporting targeted aisle cooling that other fan types may struggle to provide.

There are many facilities where Airius units can be wall mounted or suspended from an overhead structure while moving air horizontally, offering significant cooling and air movement across and around the space.

One Airius application gaining traction in projects across Europe, India and Australia is the ability to replace or measurably reduce ductwork in air-conditioned environments.

Ductwork is used to mix and distribute conditioned cold or warm air. When correctly sized and located, Airius units can act as an effective alternative or supplement to ductwork, reducing MEP costs by up to 20% in suitable projects, with the added benefit of related energy savings.

Open-space zones with proposed or existing ducted or soft-duct systems, such as storage and manufacturing facilities, sports halls, casinos, galleries and gymnasiums, can all benefit from the implementation of Airius units as a substitute for, or supplement to, ductwork.

Another area where Airius fans can provide value is condensation reduction. Supermarkets are one example where Airius can offer a low-cost methodology to help reduce or remove condensation.

Indoor pools can also benefit from the use of Airius Air Pears. They can help reduce pool heating costs by destratifying the space and keeping heat back near the pool, while also offering cooling to the concourse and supporting noticeable condensation reduction or removal.

In smaller-scale applications, Airius also has the Opal 2-speed programmable unit. This small, aesthetic, circular architectural unit is suitable for applications such as aged care bedrooms, hotel rooms, lounge and dining rooms, bedrooms, restaurants, covered outdoor areas and verandas. Mounted on the wall or from the ceiling, it offers an alternative to a domestic ceiling fan or pedestal fan.
