Optimising Workshop Airflow at Porsche Centre Sydney South

Porsche Centre Sydney South provides specialist Porsche sales, servicing, parts and customer support from its operations in Alexandria, Sydney.

To improve airflow cooling and circulation within its dedicated Service Factory, Porsche Centre Sydney South installed 8 x Airius Emerald Series Model 630EC fans throughout the automotive workshop. Distributed across the large, open-plan service environment, the system provides effective air movement around occupied working areas while integrating neatly with the workshop’s vehicle hoists, lighting, ductwork and existing building services.

The Challenge

The Porsche Centre Sydney South Service Factory incorporates multiple vehicle service bays and hoists within a large, open-plan workshop. Technicians work across individual service zones, creating a requirement for effective air movement over a considerable area rather than cooling focused on a single location.

The extensive overhead infrastructure also presented an important consideration. Lighting, structural steelwork, ductwork and other building services already occupy the ceiling space, while the vehicle lifts and servicing equipment below need to remain completely unobstructed.

The airflow solution therefore needed to:

  • Provide effective airflow cooling and circulation across multiple workshop working zones.
  • Integrate around existing overhead services while maintaining clear operational space beneath.
  • Operate quietly without adding unnecessary noise to the working environment.
  • Provide an energy-efficient alternative or complement to increasing air-conditioning capacity.
  • Avoid the spatial and operational constraints associated with large exposed-blade fans.

The Solution

Airius supplied 8 x Emerald Series Model 630EC fans, positioned at high level throughout the Service Factory to provide airflow coverage across the individual workshop and service zones.

The compact, enclosed units integrate neatly amongst existing lighting, ductwork, pipework and structural infrastructure, without introducing large rotating blades into the working environment.

The Emerald 630EC combines energy-efficient EC motor technology with Airius airflow design to project controlled air movement over significant distances. Units can also be positioned and angled according to the building layout, allowing airflow to be directed towards occupied work areas where it is required most.

Delivering powerful, controllable airflow, the Emerald Series supports year-round conditions:

  • In warmer conditions, increased air movement provides airflow cooling around technicians and service bays while helping distribute conditioned air more effectively where air conditioning is operating.
  • In cooler conditions, lower-speed operation can support destratification by recirculating warmer high-level air back towards occupied working areas.

Quiet operation and energy-efficient EC motor technology also make the system particularly suited to a busy professional automotive workshop.

The Outcome

With 8 Emerald 630EC units installed throughout the Service Factory, Porsche Centre Sydney South now has a dedicated airflow system designed around the layout and operational requirements of its automotive workshop.

The distributed installation provides air movement across multiple service bays while maintaining clear working space beneath the fans and integrating effectively around the building’s existing infrastructure.

The main benefits include:

  • Improved airflow circulation and cooling air movement across multiple vehicle service bays.
  • Quiet, directional airflow delivered to occupied working areas without obstructing workshop operations.
  • Compact installation integrated around existing lighting, ductwork and building infrastructure.
  • Helps support existing air conditioning and reduce reliance on additional HVAC capacity, with associated opportunities to lower energy use, operating costs and carbon emissions.
  • Year-round functionality through airflow cooling in warmer conditions and destratification during cooler periods.

The installation demonstrates how a compact, distributed airflow system can be integrated into a complex automotive service environment to provide effective air movement without compromising the valuable working space required for vehicles, equipment and technicians.
